It kind of shocks me that no one has thought of a design like this sooner. The golf ball dimples are fairly functional for good hand feedback and creates a pretty unique look and experience.Īny regrets? None here- I only wish this product would be offered by anybody sooner. The reason why I preferred this choice over other knobs is because I wanted something that had character and could pass for OEM. As soon as I installed it I took a 35+ mile stint out east and felt completely confident in the product. This knob when you put the set screws in with locktite blue has no play or funny business to it. I really love the feel of the knob itself, I enjoy the added weight, and it feels sturdy. How does it drive and function? Wish I installed this sooner. Yes, it is lower then stock but I wouldn't even call it very noticeable and in terms of usability- there's plenty of room for functionality here even if you dropped it to the base. I felt like at the halfway point of the textured pipe I was able to find a really adequate knob height. Remember here, I have no other modifications on my drive train- no short shifter (yet), no shift bushings, no bleeder block removal and not even a clutch stop. I'm bias'ed to this notion because I wanted to lower the height of the shift knob and felt like the stock set up was "too high". The second point of emphasis that concerned me going into purchasing an aftermarket knob was everyone seems to "complain" that it lowers the height of the knob too much. I feel like at this price point, a small bottle of locktite and a better ziptie should be included but hardly deal breakers. You will also need locktite blue and I don't see a way around this. The only thing I disliked personally was the clasp that BFI supplies is essentially useless (real flimsy and doesn't have the locking power of a true zip tie). Remember, I am coming from weighted knobs the slammology which I think is in the 500g club but I felt like this was adequate even at half the weight. When I put it on my small scale I believe it read out 230 grams and I felt like this is sufficient. I think the fit and finish on this thing is pretty top notch and I liked the weighted feel (in comparison to stock I would say more than double the weight on my hand scale). In terms of installing the knob itself, I spent a good amount of time admiring the knob outside the packaging. I felt like I was able to achieve a near stock look after the fact. One point of emphasis I want to make is that I was highly concerned of the appearance of my shift boot after the fact- no offense to anyone specific on here but some of the "aftermarket knob" photos turned me off because the boot looked like it was reinstalled pinched or just flat out sloppy. I went through probably 2-3 flat head small precision screw drivers to find a decent "fit" to wedge things away. I really made sure that with any of the rings that I used tools that fit up to the task and didn't force anything. Seemed fairly easy to do if you took care and time. I did recycle my stock boot so I was more mindful not to rip or tarnish that in anyway or form. It probably doesn't need to take this long but I was extremely careful and I also went the route of using a hair drier to heat up the plastic teeth ring around the original knob. I would say that the removal and installation itself took me about a solid 45 minutes. More or less mostly because of how they made it seem like some "modifying" was needed in order to remove the OEM knob and expensive mistakes felt close around the corner. I was a little turned off by the installation guides that I've encountered (really only one on here) and some videos I saw that made the installation process seem very "hack job-ish". Most of my background experience though comes from Asian branded vehicles and among other things I felt inclined to take a chance on BFI since I knew they offered products for VW/Audi/BMW to stay true to this car's roots. I plan on updating this thread probably this weekend with personal photos but I haven't really had a good opportunity since it gets dark out so fast during the week.įirst some background information I've already had an experience with a Raceseng knob slammology in a Honda S2000 and I've also had other experiences with "no name/lesser name" knobs through other people's vehicles that I've encountered. I installed the knob last Sunday when the temperature spiked to about 55 degrees F (it snowed here the day before mind you) and it was pretty seamless. This thread isn't meant to be an installation guide but I will share my installation experience and if anyone has any questions I would be happy to answer them directly. Just wanted to share my experience with a relatively new product from BFI that I actually pre-ordered back in late September/early October.
